Jim Meltsner
Jim Meltsner brings a deep understanding of Capitol Hill legislative, administrative, and political processes, built over a 30-plus-year career in government relations. His practice focuses on appropriations, tax, defense, Social Security, government operations and immigration policy.
Before joining AGS, Jim founded Meltsner Strategies, a lobbying and consulting firm that represented a diverse group of clients, including large and small defense contractors, public policy advocates, and organizations representing federal employees.
Jim served as the Vice President of Government Relations and Communications for Alenia North America, where he oversaw lobbyist and consultant teams, congressional interactions, and media relations. Mr. Meltsner worked for 16 years at Northrop Grumman Corporation, helping establish the goals and objectives for their Washington office, and culminating his tenure as Vice President for Congressional Affairs. He achieved a significant string of legislative successes and was named a Top Lobbyist in 2010 by The Hill newspaper.
Jim was also a Presidential Appointee in the George H.W. Bush Administration, serving at the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Export Administration as the Director of Congressional Affairs, and was promoted to acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Legislative Affairs.
Mr. Meltsner received his B.A. in Government and English from Colby College and his J.D. from the National Law Center, George Washington University. He is a member of both the Washington, D.C., and Maryland Bar Associations. When not promoting his clients’ interests, Jim is busy in his woodshop building furniture or riding his bicycle and raising money for cancer research.
